Roses for a Penny

Roses for a penny,
Bullets they come free.
Can you hear them singing,
Scarlet as they bleed?

Roses in a barrel,
In a market shop.
Raise your arms and grab a few,
Ignore the cries to stop.

Roses on a casket,
Wilt with memories.
Ruby petals ooze,
Between a child's teeth.

This poem was written in light of the school shooting that occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in 2018. It focuses on the political controversy surrounding gun control and education.
